For Once, the Hurricane Shark was Real

by Margaret Schoen on 2022-10-04T13:14:11-04:00 | 0 Comments

In the aftermath of a natural disaster, fake images and videos abound. For hurricanes, the photos of aquatic life ending up where it don't belong is a common theme: hoax images of sharks swimming down subways, city streets and in swimming pools seem to show up after every storm.

But this time, it looks like the picture is actually real. A video of a shark - or possibly another creature - swimming in a street in Fort Meyers, Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian went viral last week. But this time, it looks like the video is real, according to fact checkers at the Associated Press and Snopes, though there is some question as to exactly what type of fish it is.
